What is leadership coaching?
Leadership coaching, or executive coaching, is a personalised development solution with the purpose of enhancing an individual’s confidence and ability to lead others, achieve meaningful personal goals and deliver effective business results.
The aim of leadership coaching is to bring lasting positive change on a leader’s mindset and behaviours, supporting their well-being, effectiveness, and performance.
Change leadership coaching
People-centred change leadership is essential to long-term transformation success. Leaders must plan for and respond to constantly evolving workplace dynamics during times of change. Yet, leaders often become fixated on the more tangible change deliverables. It’s where their expertise lies, which gives a greater sense of comfort and control during times of uncertainty.
Change leadership coaching positively challenges leaders to explore alternative possibilities as they work through specific change challenges, including: re-orienting the strategic direction, addressing employee anxieties, developing team resilience and realising opportunities to innovate and disrupt the status quo.

coach do?
The role of a leadership coach is to act as a trusted partner who will challenge, motivate, and empower the leader to maximise their personal and professional potential. They will help the leader improve self-awareness of the habits and behaviours that serve them well, and those that they would benefit from adapting, working together to define a personal action plan and change strategy. Leadership coaches are adept at using active listening and effective questioning skills to help leaders find clarity of direction through complex challenges.
All of ChangingPoint’s coaches are highly qualified and have a range of coaching experience across industry sectors and leadership levels.
What are the benefits of leadership coaching?
Leadership coaching offers leaders the headspace to view challenges from multiple perspectives, developing problem-solving, creativity and strategic thinking skills. Time away from daily pressures creates a safe space for leaders to explore existing strengths and potential weaknesses, and the opportunity to set meaningful goals aligned to organisational objectives.
While leadership coaching programmes focus on specific personal development goals, the resulting behavioural change can create a positive ripple effect for the individual leader and across the organisation.
The types of leadership challenges ChangingPoint supports through 1:1 coaching include:
- Empowering senior leaders to reach their full potential in a new area of accountability
- Supporting future leaders to make the step up to a position with greater responsibility
- Preparing leaders to navigate their teams through organisational change
- Helping leaders clarify the part they play in significant business events such as mergers and acquisitions, restructures, market disruptions or downsizing, including how to effectively lead people through periods of uncertainty
- Addressing specific personal blockers such as feelings of Imposter Syndrome

What to expect from ChangingPoint
Leadership Coaching
Defined leadership challenges
Defined leadership challenges
As part of an initial coaching contracting session, we will work with leaders to define the specific leadership challenges they wish to focus on during the coaching programme. When relevant, these will also be agreed with the coaching programme sponsor to ensure alignment to wider business objectives. A defined leadership challenge ensures that the coaching programme has clearly stated performance metrics and measures of success.
Increased self-awareness
Leaders may also be invited to complete a well-established personality psychometric or leadership emotional intelligence assessment. The assessment results are used as a foundational framework to support the programme, with on-going opportunity to explore how the unique insights provided can be applied to their personal leadership challenges.
Bespoke programme format
Bespoke programme format
The duration of the coaching programme, coaching sessions and frequency of contact will be tailored to the unique needs of the leader. We will work with individual leaders and organisations to establish a bespoke programme format that will embed new leadership behaviours and support effective performance delivery. Coaching sessions can be delivered in-person or virtually. The 1:1 coaching programme can be completed alongside our Personal Impact Leadership and Universal Change Leadership Programmes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. Leadership is defined as the act of leading a group of people or an organisation, which requires a certain set of skills and behaviours. The first step to teaching these skills is to raise awareness of the current habits and behaviours that support effective leadership and those that might stand in the way. With an open mind, it’s possible to discover and put into practice new behaviours that promote leadership growth, from setting strategic direction and managing change through to effective delegation and developing others.
Leadership development programmes can offer significant personal and business benefits. The secret to success is in their alignment to current individual and organisational objectives. We value getting to know participants and the teams in which they work to ensure that our practical solutions will target their specific needs. These insights also help us to define clear measures of success which are used to evaluate programme outcomes. We also know that promoting sustained, positive behavioural change takes time. We believe the most effective way to achieve long-lasting leadership development results is to deliver programmes in bite-size chunks. This supports the on-going application of learning to real-time leadership challenges, enhancing day-to-day leadership impact.
The step up from management to leadership requires a new set of skills and behaviours that may differ from those which led to promotion into a more senior position. New leaders often struggle to ‘let go’ of the technical aspects of their role and make the mindset shift needed to successfully deliver results through others. Left unchallenged, these habits and behaviours can result in micromanagement, disengagement and underperformance. What’s more, in today’s ever-evolving working world, leaders at all levels benefit from an openness to learning and curiosity towards personal growth. Our leadership programmes open minds to new ways of thinking and support in the application of new behaviours to current leadership challenges, from increasing collaboration across a newly hybrid-working team to enhancing engagement within a multi-generational workforce.
Leadership programmes offer the opportunity to step back from day-to-day pressures and more consciously consider how to maximise your leadership impact. This safe space for reflection helps you to identify the habits and behaviours that are serving you well and where you would benefit most from making some changes. Setting real-time personal development goals throughout the programme will support you in the instant application of fresh ideas once back to work, constantly enhancing your leadership impact over time. Our coaches will offer positive challenge throughout the programme to help you stretch your comfort zone and embed new behaviours, step by step.
